The friends of Highland Road Cemetery invite you to Adopt A Grave. In doing so you will be helped in maintaining the grave and by so doing, improving the appearance of the Cemetery.
Maintenance of a grave may be as little as weeding the plot from time to time, or perhaps cleaning the stonework and trimming the grass surrounds.
To apply to Adopt A Grave, download the document below. It is in an MS Word format which should open correctly on any computer. Print the form, complete the required sections and return it to the Secretary of the Friends, c/o 11 Somerville Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO2 8RQ. The form will then be forwarded to the Cemeteries Manager who will carry out a health and safety inspection before arranging to discuss your proposals for maintenance of the grave. In the majority of cases there will be no option for carrying out reconstruction work.
There is no limit to the number of graves a person may adopt, nor how many people may be involved in one adoption, but each adoption application must be accompanied by a separate form and each person adopting a grave must be a Member of the Friends of Highland Road Cemetery.
PLEASE NOTE: the Adopt-A-Grave scheme does not supersede the natural rights of persons who maintain the graves of family members. The Friends would be grateful if anyone doing so could let them know so that a record of ongoing work may be maintained but they are not obliged to become Members. The Friends offer encouragement to and for families of those interred in Highland Road cemetery, to refresh and renew their interests in their local and family history and in supporting our Aims as "Friends".
